In 1975 Bill traded a Harley for a tattoo apprenticeship under Pete Stephens and Dennis Breen of East Coast Studio in Sacramento, CA. In ’79 Bill opened his first Liberty Tattoo studio in Placerville, CA where he remained for a little under one year. After that he worked with Ken Larsen before re-opening Liberty Tattoo in the American River College/Sacramento area where he remained for almost 30 years (Myrtle Ave, Amber Lane, Auburn Blvd). From 2008-Oct. 2016 Liberty Tattoo was located in historic Folsom, CA and the studio is now located in Newcastle, CA.
Artists have come and gone (and come and gone again!) over the years: Leroy (Bill’s brother), Jennifer, Mike, Paul, Alycia and a few other personalities, but now it’s just Bill and his wife Lori.
Bill has been a respected business owner and professional tattoo artist for 42 years; he paints (watercolors and acrylics); restores 60s Honda motorcycles; runs ultra marathons and goes on week long bicycle trips, and makes steampunk art.
Lori is the co-owner/office manager and has been tattooing for 7 years. She joined the business in 2001 after 23 years of administrative experience at Tower Records HQ and a nurse recruiting company to name a few, and she has been a volunteer at Mercy General Hospital since 1995 with her friend of 48 years, Carol.
Bill & Lori just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
